In 1978, the Trust Board was charged with determining the beneficiaries of the hapu as those being descendants of the common ancestor, Tuperiri. The Trust Board compiled a list for the Maori Land Court giving people opportunity to lodge objections. The Maori Land Court had jurisdiction to hear and determine all objections after which, the Court issued a final list of the descendants of Tuperiri. This was encapsulated in the Orakei Block (Vesting and Use) Act and subsequently amended by the Orakei Act 1991.
