Papakainga Kaumatua Housing 2006

Ngati Whatua built and completed in early 2006, eight 1.5 bedroom brick and tile kaumatua (superannuate) units in Orakei.

On completion they were then leased back to Housing NZ. Housing NZ in turn has rented them to kaumatua (superannuates), who meet the Housing NZ social allocation criteria.

It is critical to Ngati Whatua that Ngati Whatua beneficiaries rent these units, and its prior research identifying at least 16 qualified beneficiaries, gave it the confidence to commit to this project.

Total budget for this project was $1.7m including GST.
