The Ngati Whatua o Orakei Maori Trust Board is pleased to encourage participation and excellence in education in 2012.

To be eligible all applicants must fulfill the following criteria;

  • One application per applicant per year may be made,
  • Be a registered beneficiary, child or grandchild of a registered beneficiary of the Ngati Whatua o Orakei Maori Trust Board,
  • Declaration on page 12 of the application form must be signed,
  • Must provide all requested information and documentation,
  • Must nominate a New Zealand bank account,
  • Must reside in New Zealand for no less than 183 days of the 2012 school year.

All information provided in the forms will be used to enable the processing of the Education Grants Application and will also be used by Ngati Whatua o Orakei Maori Trust Board for the following purposes;

  • For statistical purposes,
  • For informing people about Education initiatives, events, programmes and scholarships available for Ngati Whatua o Orakei members,
  • For informing people about possible employment opportunities both internal and external.

No information provided in this form will be given to external sources without the consent of the person (if over 18) or their parent/guardian (if under 18). Information provided in this form may only be accessed or changed by authorised persons. No financial details will be provided over the phone and identification may be required when attempting to access information about those registered on the Education Database.

Unitec Tu Ake Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to increase participation, retention and success of a Ngati Whatua o Orakei student who has demonstrated the academic potential to succeed in tertiary level and wishes to attend Unitec.

Criteria: 

All applicants for this scholarship must;

  • Meet the entry requirements for their chosen programme of study at Unitec,
  • Have applied for enrolement in a full time, full year Unitec programme at Diploma, Degree or Post-Graduate level,
  • Be able to demonstrate a contribution to the Ngati Whatua o Orakei community and/or Marae,
  • Maintain a B-Grade average or higher throughout the academic year,
  • Be willing to have their progress monitored,
  • Must participate in the Whai Ake I Te Ara Tika - Maori Mentoring programme at Unitec,
  • Maintain at least an 80% attendance record,
  • Be able to demonstrate a track record of success in one or more of the following areas;
    • Academic
    • Cultural
    • Sporting
    • Leadership

Amount: This scholarship is up to $5,000 and will be credited to your Unitec student fees at the end of the academic year following confirmed results of a B-Grade average or higher (or at least 50% merit passes in competency based programmes). Therefore successful applicants are required to arrange payment of fees at the beginning of the semester.

Tenure: This scholarship is awarded for one academic year. Current and past recipients are entitled to re-apply for this scholarship, but will go through the same application process as all other applicants.

Faculty of Arts, Ngati Whatua o Orakei Undergraduate Scholarships

The purpose of the Scholarships is to further develop the relationship, based on the Memorandum of Understanding, between The University of Auckland and Ngati Whatua o Orakei. This initiative will develop benefits for students of Ngati Whatua o Orakei by supporting the Orakei Trust Board to realise their education goals. These Scholarships are intended to encourage Ngati Whatua o Orakei students to study in the Faculty of Arts.

Amount: $4,000

Number of Scholarships: 4

Tenure: First year of Study

Ngati Whatua o Orakei Maori Trust Board

He Taumata Rau Tertiary Scholarship

Ngati Whatua o Orakei Maori Trust Board is offering 5 scholarships to support registered beneficiaries entering into their second, third, or fourth year of tertiary study. These scholarships are available for both undergraduate and postgraduate students studying one of the priority areas – business, education, science, health and legal studies. The scholarship includes a contribution towards fees, mentoring support and job placement or internship assistance where possible.

Closing Date: 9 April 2012

Amount: $3,000

Number of Scholarships: 5

Tenure: 1 year

Private Secondary School

Aspire Scholarships

The Aspire Scholarship is for students from low-medium income families who would like to attend a New Zealand private secondary school. These scholarships are open to any applicants and are not specific to Ngati Whatua o Orakei beneficiaries. However we encourage whanau to apply. These scholarships are available to those students who will be entering in to Year 9 in 2013.

Closing Date: About May 2012 (TBC)

Amount: Up to $5,000 per year for tuition fees and up to $1,500 per year for course related costs.

Number of Scholarships: 50

Tenure: For the duration of enrolment at a Private Secondary School.
