Deed of Settlement Documents
On Thursday 29 September 2011 the Deed of Settlement was initialled by the leadership of Ngati Whatua o Orakei and the Minister of Treaty Negotiations on behalf of the Crown.
The process is that the Deed of Settlement is first initialled once negotiations have been completed. Then that Deed of Settlement is taken to the people of Ngati Whatua o Orakei for their agreement with it through a ratification process. If that ratification is successful then the Deed of Settlement will be signed by the Crown and then legislation put through Parliament to complete the Settlement.
